Insurance Options

Where do you start when it comes to addiction recovery? The last thing you should have to worry about is the affordability of treatment. On this page you will find insurance options that could potentially cover the cost of treatment, or reduce it by thousands. Each link provides a description to help you find what option is best. If you or your loved one is still on a family insurance plan that does not cover treatment, there are other financial options such as grants, scholarships, and some treatment facilities take payment plans.

Understanding Health Coverage Options

Medicaid is a health insurance program for low-income individuals, pregnant women, and children. In urgent or emergency situations, Medicaid applications may be expedited for faster approval. Sometimes, calling is the quickest way to get help. 📞 Best number to call: 855-635-4370

Medicare is designed for people 65 and older, as well as individuals under 65 with certain disabilities. Applications are handled through the Social Security Administration (SSA). For many, calling can simplify the process. 📞 SSA contact: 1-800-772-1213 or your local office

Virginia CommonHelp is the website where you can apply for Medicaid and other assistance programs, such as: SNAP (food stamps), child care assistance, and heating and cooling assistance.

The Health Insurance Marketplace is for individuals who aren’t covered by an employer or make too much to qualify for Medicaid or Medicare. You can shop for private health insurance plans here.

Finance Options

The Spero Foundation-Colorado Only

Although this foundation only serves Colorado, we’ve included it as a reference in case it becomes more widely available or helpful for relocation options.

10,000 beds

This is a fantastic resource that offers treatment scholarships, but currently has an extremely long waitlist. We recommend keeping an eye on it in case that restriction changes in the future.

Contact Local Rehabs

Contact your desired rehab(s) and ask them to see if they provide grants for substance abuse treatment using SAMHSA funding.

Crowdsourcing

You can raise funds for treatment through platforms like GoFundMe or IndieGoGo. Sharing your story on social media often helps rally support from friends, family, and even strangers.

PAN Foundation

While the PAN Foundation does not offer assistance for drug or alcohol treatment, they do provide grants to help cover costs for specific medical conditions. Click the link to see what’s currently covered.
